There was Cliff, Kirk and Quinten in the top drawer. Neil Robertson isn't bad either, but for some reason he always makes me think of Bananaman. We've only produced Tony Knowles and Paul Hunter who can be suitably described as handsome from a much larger pool. I wonder why that is?Betty Logannoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29605452.post-34592798956561020002010-10-26T22:46:29.356+01:002010-10-26T22:46:29.356+01:00Reading this brought a lot of great memories. Look out for when he underhit the final black - as a result the cue ball was nowhere near ideal position for the yellow, but he hit a stunning shot to keep the break going. Pure brilliance under unbelievable pressure.

It does indeed show that slow players can generate great excitement too, just as Steve Davis reminded us earlier this year.

Also it's great to hear Cliff doing the voiceovers for the BBC's player profiles. A vast improvement on that comic strip rubbish they had.Greg Phttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00346602906924608907noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29605452.post-66137806525496162922010-10-26T20:40:22.050+01:002010-10-26T20:40:22.050+01:00http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vh2NOS9HH-whttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vh2NOS9HH-wAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29605452.post-88968299331137505302010-10-26T18:15:39.252+01:002010-10-26T18:15:39.252+01:00The notion that Cliff Thorburn pioneered the Dump ...The notion that Cliff Thorburn pioneered the Dump Shot is a complete non-starter.
Fellow Canadian Mario Morra invented this shot as well as other shots which have now entered our game.
Thorburn is a great guy and a former great player but Morra was a snookering genius who was ahead of his time.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29605452.post-12304558944784960222010-10-26T14:59:57.098+01:002010-10-26T14:59:57.098+01:00Many years ago when Cliff first came to Manchester...Many years ago when Cliff first came to Manchester he went to the club where Alex Higgins was practising and had a few frames with him. After a while Alex suggested they play for £5 a frame (a lot of money then)with Cliff having a 28 start!! Alex never won another frame for the rest of the day. That Alex was a boy eh? Cliff was responsible for the first 147 at the Crucible - one of the greatest snooker moments ever.He also invented the dump shot, strange to think no one thought of it before. Also his book "Snooker Skills" is one of the best coaching books around. He is a self-effacing gentleman and a total credit to snooker.Raynoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29605452.post-9934067054595912552010-10-26T13:04:09.377+01:002010-10-26T13:04:09.377+01:00dave, i am sure you will agree, he is actually a f...dave, i am sure you will agree, he is actually a funny guy too.

doesnt take himself too seriously.

good impersonation of 'pet detective' ACE V

i wish him all the best. provided me with many happy memories.........Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29605452.post-16450195885128923272010-10-26T11:37:09.346+01:002010-10-26T11:37:09.346+01:00Enjoyed reading that!
