The 888.com World Championship trophy will be presented to the winner on May 5 by a member of the public.
The sponsors have been given the green light by World Snooker to run a competition, the winner of which will hand over the 82 year-old silverware, first presented in 1927.
You can enter the competition here: www.888snooker.com.
Is this a good way of getting the fans more involved with the game or demeaning to the dignity of the event?

THIS IS PATHETIC
ReplyDeleteThere are many other ways of getting people into Snooker, if they enter the competition, then they are likely to be Snooker fans any way.
In my opinion it COMPLETLY ruins it, imagine what would happen if it went all wrong.
I can't believe WorldSnooker can let that happen.
Utterly pointless...
ReplyDeleteanother cheap wsa gimmick. devalues the presentation to the champion.
ReplyDeleteI can't see this enhancing the trophy presentation in any way. This part of the ceremony should be kept prestigious, almost sacred and should be done by the sponsor or a top WPBSA official (in my view).
ReplyDeleteAndy
Even by the low standards of the WPBSA, this is beyond belief.
ReplyDeleteQuite simply, what other sport would be ridiculous enough to do this?
I heard they were inviting members of the public to be master of ceremonies at The Crucible...
ReplyDeleteI couldn't see this happening with ay othr sport! Hmmm, bad move...
