MAGUIRE V BURNETT: REPORT SENT TO PROSECUTORS

Stephen Maguire and Jamie Burnett are among five men that form the subject of a police report relating to irregular betting patterns for their match in the 2008 UK Championship forwarded to the Procurator Fiscal in Scotland.

The Procurator Fiscal will ultimately decide whether charges will be brought.

A statement released today read: "Strathclyde Police Economic Crime Unit can confirm that five males aged 35, 34, 31, 31 and 29 are subject of a police report that is being submitted to the Procurator Fiscal at Hamilton in relation to the alleged irregular betting patterns associated with the snooker match involving Stephen Maguire and Jamie Burnett at the Maplin UK Championship on 14 December 2008."

Last year, Strathclyde Police made public that they had interviewed the two players the week before the World Championship. This latest news comes just two days before this year's Crucible event.

Due to the highly sensitive nature of the case comments on this post will be strictly moderated.

Dave, you said there was a documentary on match fixing coming up on Five Live. Do you the have time for this? In says in my Radio Times that Hearn will be anwsering questions at 8pm from listeners on snooker and darts for an hour - I hope this documentary is not replacing that.

Im not really interested in that, it bugs me that instead of a decent preview piece for the event, we focus on match fixing to give the sport a plug. I won't be home till 8pm, hopefully Hearn will be on then, otherwise I will watch the leader's debate.

Just browsing through some press articles ahead of the Crucible. The two that stood out were an interview with John Higgins in the Independent and Steve Davis chatting to Donald McRae in the Guardian.

Are we assuming they're amongst the five men or has this been confirmed by Strathclydge Police?

Things have changed... was originally going to be Hearn answering questions, but that was overtaken by live debate between the party leaders.

Now a special on betting and snooker at 7.30...

So they were going to have Hearn on, but then cancelled because of the leaders' debates? That seems more than a tad farcical, didn't they already know these debates were going to be on, weeks in advance?

Anyway, why should Uncle Baz's appearance on the radio be cancelled just because two dull men were on ITV trying to do their best Tony Blair impressions (and also, some random bear trying to appear human)

Will we fans ever get a proper chance to chip in with our ideas or pick his brains...? This is really annoying.
