JIANGSU CLASSIC TO BE SCREENED ON EUROSPORT

Eurosport will show the Jiangsu Classic, World Snooker's new invitation event in China, from June 4-8.

The first broadcast is on Wednesday, June 4 at 8.30am.

This tournament features eight of the world's top 12 ranked players plus four local wildcards.

It will be played first in Nanjing, using a round robin format, with the final in Wuxi City, hometown of Ding Junhui.

Good news, this, for snooker fans suffering withdrawal symptoms after the 888.com World Championship!

Note: there's not coverage every day as they aren't playing every day.

I've heard round robins are best of 3 frames, a bit short.

So delighted to read this. Am having major major withdrawl symptoms.

So who are the players? 8 out of 12? I assume no Ronnie..!?

Best out of 3 frames is unbelievable. Never heard of anything like that before. Fancy some of these Chinese guys to do well with this format. If they come out of the blocks fast then there will be no stopping them!

Well, best-of-3 isn't too bad -- think of the Pot Black Cup which is best-of-1. ;-)

    cheers,
    Eric

  15. It is a bit of a short format but, to be fair, this is really to showcase the game and they want to feature as many players as possible in a short time

This is the chineses version of Pot Black. Would snooker had taken off in the UK had they started with best-of 50 or whatever they used to play in those days? The chinese want shorter matches.
