DAVIS WHITEWASHES LAWLER

Like Old Man River, Steve Davis just keeps rolling along.

The six times former world champion turns 53 later this month. Today he began his 33rd season as a professional by whitewashing Rod Lawler 5-0 to reach the final stages of the Shanghai Masters.

A 44 clearance gave him the first frame and he dished from green to black to steal the third.

Davis then finished off with breaks of 75 and 63 to secure a Shanghai meeting with Jamie Cope.

He will surely start as one of the favourites for the new World Seniors Championship in November, which will be shown in highlights form on Sky Sports.

It marks a further expansion of Sky's snooker portfolio after they signed a deal to screen the new One Frame Shootout next January.

    Hi Dave,

Sure yourself,Phil or Chris will have the answer: Any idea when was the last time Davis whitewashed an opponent in a world ranking tournament; either qualifying or otherwise?

Didn't he whitewash Doherty at the Masters.

Great to see SKY back in the big time with snooker. The production (and I know Eurosport only take the feed - but it's poor Dave,) is superb, slick and really does make the game attractive which is what it needs when up against football, tennis, golf, cricket, golf etc.

My opinion about Higgins was that the hearing was always going to be before Glasgow's World Open. It just seems appropriate - should he get off - the PR around the tournament for the first weekend will be manna from heaven for Hearn and the game.

    Thanks, Joe

PS Think Ebdon's had a dodgy can of Heinz Bake Beans!

Its still 1-0 to Michael White after an hour and a half. Either its the longest frame ever or global have fallen asleep.

Why does the snooker scene site not have live scoring? If theres somebody there covering the matches for the mag, surely its not that difficult to send the scores to the website.

Dear Betty @ 6:52 Hello Dave
You could be right lass as there is some DVD of “The Fine Art” method in the Bristol office. I really don’t know Betty if you were being “Sarcastic, “Prophetic” or “Knowledgeable” with your one line expression.

You will also find at W/S Bristol E mails suggesting positive reasons why the John Higgins “Case” will be perpetually on the move and stay unresolved.

Please do not draw any wrong conclusions Betty but sadly the lovely game is not entirely “Squeaky Clean”. Maybe there should have been further votes taken back in early May. Mr Hey You

some of us rely on eurosport and wouldn't swap it they show every day of every ranking event. if you live in uk you are lucky to have choice

Seeing that there isn't a post about Ebdon on Dave's blog, and it's already mentioned in this thread, I think World Snooker should hang their heads in shame when they released that story about Ebdons' announcement about his lack of practice and other off table matters. That could have lulled Michael White into a false sense of security when he played him tonight. After all, the lad is still young and impressionable.

it's come to my attention this some **** head has been having a go at my pal snookerbacker. he needs to calm down imo and have a good look through www.kjbetting.co.uk to find a classic rock and roll band or 2 to listen to instead of living a miserable life full of hate. he might also find a good ante post footy bet or 2

So he can dish it out but he can't take it?

    What a surprise

    Ebdon's plan worked then

    What a surprise!

Poor Michael White. He has to be up early again tomorrow for his 9am match in the PTC tour...

getting up to go to "work" for 9am is a luxury, compared to what i and many many others have to do for work. i do not pity him one bit.

Clever move by Ebbo all right. In normal circumstances White would have been considered the outsider.

He would have been in the ideal state of mind for snooker - having everything to gain and nothing to lose.

By making his statement, Ebdon transferred the pressure of expectation from himself to the young qualifier.

I don't blame world snooker. They, after all, have pledged transparancy and were correct to make public a situation that might have betting implications and have the potential to attract accusations of match fixing.

  20. Anonymous10:32 am

Well done Ebbo - you did the right thing lad in letting us punters know the SP regarding your preparation, although some of the so-called experts called the match horribly horribly wrong.

  24. The only posts I disallow are spam, libels or the gratuitously offensive

If you don't like snookerbacker's tipping, he has a website where you can point this out if you so desire

Similarly if you don't like Mr Hey You's, er, unique take on the sport you can ignore him

I find Dave's respect for freedom of speech refreshing; the internet was supposed to be the ultimate bastion of free speech, but try pointing that out on The Snooker Forum or The Snooker Island!

i meant in my earlier post..i dont know how you dont find him (sb)offensive (as loads on here do)

It took me a long time to learn to scroll past hey-y'all's posts but now it is second nature.

Just like staring into the sun. Don't do it or your eyes will melt.

Anyway, it will be nice to see Steve Davis kick some butt in Shanghai.

I think he's harmless enough although he has a few sly digs at this blog which is unnecessary and rather petty

    ReplyDelete
  30. I've not noticed that. Now let's all be friends and stop the sniping. There are more important issues at stake, like when was the last time Steve won 5-0?

    Anyone?

    ReplyDelete
  31. Anonymous1:31 pm

Joe - Eurosport show snooker LIVE. Sky are showing this in highlights weeks after it is played.

    I know which I prefer.

Dave Gilbert 2007 Welsh Open I reckon, he hasn't lost 5-0 a lot, only to Mark Davis and Ebdon in the last 17 years?

  33. Betty Logan - what on earth are you talking about? In what way is Snooker Island not a bastion of free speech? I welcome your response.

Your kidding right? It has a list of 20+ rules at the top of the forum. It also claims the right monitor and intercept private correspondence - I wouldn't tolerate that from a stranger on the internet anymore than I would from a BT operator.
