Like Old Man River, Steve Davis just keeps rolling along.
The six times former world champion turns 53 later this month. Today he began his 33rd season as a professional by whitewashing Rod Lawler 5-0 to reach the final stages of the Shanghai Masters.
A 44 clearance gave him the first frame and he dished from green to black to steal the third.
Davis then finished off with breaks of 75 and 63 to secure a Shanghai meeting with Jamie Cope.
He will surely start as one of the favourites for the new World Seniors Championship in November, which will be shown in highlights form on Sky Sports.
It marks a further expansion of Sky's snooker portfolio after they signed a deal to screen the new One Frame Shootout next January.

Didn't he whitewash Doherty at the Masters.
Great to see SKY back in the big time with snooker. The production (and I know Eurosport only take the feed - but it's poor Dave,) is superb,slick and really does make the game attractive which is what it needs when up against football,tennis,golf,cricket,golf etc.
My opinion about Higgins was that the hearing was always going to be before Glasgow's World Open. It just seems appropriate - should he get off - the PR around the tournament for the first weekend will be manna from heaven for Hearn and the game.

You could be right lass as there is some DVD of “The Fine Art” method in the Bristol office. I really don’t know Betty if you were being “Sarcastic, “Prophetic” or “Knowledgeable” with your one line expression.
You will also find at W/S Bristol E mails suggesting positive reasons why the John Higgins “Case” will be perpetually on the move and stay unresolved.
Please do not draw any wrong conclusions Betty but sadly the lovely game is not entirely “Squeaky Clean”. Maybe there should have been further votes taken back in early May. Mr Hey You
some of us rely on eurosport and wouldn't swap it they show every day of every ranking event. if you live in uk you are lucky to have choice
ReplyDeleteSeeing that there isn't a post about Ebdon on Dave's blog, and it's already mentioned in this thread, I think World Snooker should hang their heads in shame when they released that story about Ebdons' announcement about his lack of practice and other off table matters. That could have lulled Michael White into a false sense of security when he played him tonight. After all, the lad is still young and impressionable.

By making his statement, Ebdon transferred the pressure of expectation from himself to the young qualifier.
I don't blame world snooker. They, after all, have pledged transparancy and were correct to make public a situation that might have betting implications and have the potential to attract accusations of match fixing.
Well done Ebbo - you did the right thing lad in letting us punters know the SP regarding your preparation, although some of the so-called experts called the match horribly horribly wrong.
