WPBSA INVESTIGATE MICHIE MATCH

The WPBSA's new integrity unit has launched an investigation into the Marcus Campbell v Jimmy Michie match at the Caesarcasino.com Shootout in Blackpool last night after "an unusually high number of bets" were placed on Campbell to win. The Scot won the frame 32-21.

A WPBSA statement read:

The WPBSA has been made aware, by bookmakers, of suspicious betting patterns on the match between Jimmy Michie and Marcus Campbell at the Caesarscasino.com Snooker Shoot-Out on Friday evening.

The match in the one-frame knockout tournament in Blackpool was won by Campbell, 32 points to 21.

An unusually high number of bets had been placed on Campbell to win the match. The matter has been passed on to David Douglas, head of the WPBSA's Integrity Unit, for a thorough and immediate investigation.

WPBSA Chairman Jason Ferguson said: "We take the threat of corrupt activity very seriously and we are treating this matter with the utmost urgency. Having set up the Integrity Unit last year, we have the mechanisms in place to make a full investigation."

Michie anounced his retirement from the pro circuit last night. Told people the shoot out was his last ever event.

he said to people outside the stage door, next time you see me will be on crimewatch.

    hes not wrong!

Everybody involved in the game including Dave knows what happened at a venue earlier this season. Maybe Dave would like to expand on this as he knows what can and can not be put in writing.

Is Clive writing a piece about this? (there was lengthy section about Jimmy Michie in Black Farce and Cue Ball Wizards)

I typed a piece last expressing my concerns about that match, but didn't run it through, thinking it wouldn't be published.

Michie was terrible, which would not be a huge surprise, considering his ranking and exposure to tv cameras.

I later read a remark on Snookerbacker's blog, where Campbell was widely available at 5-6 with the bookies but 1.53 or 2-1 on with Betfair.

This is a massive discrepancy in pricing and could only occur as a result of someone that was willing to take unlimited bets on Michie at odds up to 2-1.

After reading this I watched the match again and for whatever reason, not only was Michie poor, but his shot selection was terrible. Low percentage pots, in one case screwing back from a long red to a position where he was on no colour but where Campbell had a red on.

He started to take his time(running down the shot clock), while behind with only a few minutes left.

It just looked as if he didn't want to win.

Its not my place to decide whether hes guilty or not, despite the circumstantial evidence freely available. I'm just relieved the match is being looked into.

  11. Speculation in a public place is unwise

Let's see how it plays out

Completely unwise I agree. Only thing to add it has nothing whatsoever to do with gambling.

It seems to be NO COINCIDENCE that the matches that get flagged up usually involve two players who get along quite well off the table.

  16. If any wrong doing is proved. I hope the new regime absolutely ruins which ever player is in question. This is an opportunity to make a big, big statement.

  17. Just a note: if people want to libel players, instead of doing so anonymously please leave your name, address and phone number so that you get the legal writ and not me

Am rejecting all comments that could incur legal action

That's a bad show, Dave, as no doubt you're referring to my post naming John Higgins and his misdemeanour's.

Do yourself a favour and burst the bubble that you're in.

The sport is corrupt....and you know it!

  19. So that's your name. Just your address and phone number to go.

Obviously you will have no problem supplying these due to all the evidence you can prove without doubt.

    Good luck in court.

Jimmy Michie immediately annoucing his retirement after his ShootOut match doesn't sound good, but I guess everything'll come out in the wash.
