TRUMP ON 'KING SWEARING

Judd Trump's 9-8 defeat to Mark King in the Maplin UK Championship yesterday ended with the teenager accusing his opponent of excessive swearing.

"He was getting frustrated and swearing during the match," Trump said. "He shouldn't be doing that.

"He kept swearing every time he played a bad shot, every time someone said 'come on Judd'.

"It was silly of him. It didn't really put me off but it just made me want to beat him.

"He didn't get warned once. He should have lost the match really. He swore at least ten times."

Players can be warned for swearing under the 'ungentlemanly conduct' rule. They are warned that a further transgression will result in a frame being awarded to their opponent.

If they break this rule again the match is awarded against them.

I have no way of verifying if what Trump said is accurate. Equally, I have no reason to disbelieve him.

Judd seems to be very dissapointed with his game yesterday and is now trying to find an excuse for that. If Mark Kings swearing was so bad the ref would have warned him.
Judd is still young and perhaps has to learn to handle a lost match. He will win lots of tournaments in the future, I'm quite sure. He just needs a bit patience.

Must admit that I was a bit disappointed by Judd's other comments yesterday, saying that he played at about 10% of his ability and that he hopes he gets King at the Masters etc. I know he must have been frustrated but that's not the way to react for me.

I actually Judd's comments are good for the game. The sport needs livening up so any mini-rivalries make things more interesting for the viewing public. We need characters.

Hmm, Mark's fans no doubt. Not that you, guys, envy Judd's talent or are afraid of him right?

He may be right about the swearing, it was nevertheless sour grapes. And there is no excuse for the "10%" quote ... except strong frustration on the moment. He's young and he's only human. On the other hand after his win over Ronnie and his victory in the Masters' qualifs I had already a hint he was becoming a bit ... arrogant? Maybe this is just what he needs to be him back with his feet on the ground.

No particular fan of Mark at all, indeed I like Judd Trump too so you couldn't be more wrong.

I don't like the comments that he came out with at all though, there's a fine line between confidence and arrogance and I think he crossed it with those. Hope he learns a lesson from the week.

He's not arrogant at all. remember, these things were said literally minutes after he lost 9-8 on the pink.

Steve Davis, Stephen Hendry and Ronnie O'Sullivan - three great players, three bad losers.

Trump's in good company.

Well yes Dave, they all are at times, they're all human and competitive guys or they wouldn't be the champions they are... difference is some it seems get sympathy for it and others get stick.

"If Mark Kings swearing was so bad the ref would have warned him."

Yeah it's as simple as that. What a pointless comment.

Judd has often referred to himself as playing well below his practice best-If what he says about swearing is accurate (which I do not doubt)I suspect Mark would of been a lot more careful with his mouth if he had been on a televised table and should be more careful.

I've heard players swear at the qualifiers and never get warned, even though the refs clearly hear it.

Not to sure Mark is that worried about it. He played the match with only a handful of spectators, two in particluar were very vociferous in they support for Trump, and made sure Mark was aware of it.

If Mark realises that it is that easy to get into Trunps head, guess what happens next time they play.....

i agree with Dave. he is certainly not arrogant in the slightest. (and ive already gave you that opinion mon ;)). what he said was ott but not entirely ooo considering he felt "provoked". faults on both sides if you ask me. faults on both sides even if you dont ask me

I agree An ;) faults on both sides. I also know you have already given me that opinion ...
(nother ;)). I also agree it's not always easy to keep composed and nice when you just lost and you are gutted. But that's true for all of them.
I'm very much in favour of a more relaxed approach to those frustrated reactions and statements... but again for all players. Especially if some of them comments may be be "sour" but are nevertheless "true". As are probably Judd's comments on King's swearing.

The bits that made me react are these "He got lucky two or three times in the last frame, he missed balls but left them safe," and "I played 10% of what I can play but I still should have beaten him. I hope I get him in the Masters."
