IN LEAGUE FOR PREMIER PLACE

It’ll be a big week for one of 13 players taking part in the Championship League, with one of the seven from Group 7 going forward to join the other six in the winner’s group on Wednesday and Thursday.

The Baronial Hall of Crondon Park Golf Club in Essex has become an unlikely favourite for the top players, who get quality match practice, not inconsiderable prize money and the chance to get in the Premier League next season.

Already through to the winners’ group are Stephen Maguire, John Higgins, Judd Trump, Marco Fu, Neil Robertson and Mark Allen.

Of these, only Higgins can be sure of a Premier League place regardless of what happens this week, although Robertson must be a leading contender as well.

Group 7 features Ding Junhui – surely a cert for the PL too after his UK Championship win – plus Steve Davis, Michael Holt and the returning Jamie Cope, Peter Ebdon, Mark Williams and Joe Swail from group 6.

The action is all live online over the next four days and more information can be found at the official website.

This is the future for snooker. Zero crowds and matches starting in the late morning all through the afternoon. It will soon be competing with greyhound racing for punters attention in the bookmakers' shops.

10.09, do you have tunnel vision?

every tournament cant be televised, especially not prime time.

this is a qualifying tournament, ran for one of the best pro tournaments of the year.

instead of it being in small cubicles and no internet coverage it is played in a very nice golf club setting, relaxed, with cash prizes and internet coverage from about 11am - 8pm which is much much better than ws do and attracts top players to it.

some people just cant see the wood for the trees...or just like to antagonise internet users.

grow a brain!

Dear Mr Groabrain @ 8:27. Hi Dave
How are you Sir! Welcome to the Hendon blog. Your information Sir seems privileged and will be most welcomed by all members.

On a point of snooker interest Mr Groabrain. A snooker ball is a Cube without edges and moves only as a cube. Mr hey you

shut up Mr Hey you, you talk complete rubbish

off topic rubbish at that.

ffs dave, cant you just ignore his off topic nonsense comments?

i keep finding myself seeing there are more comments, only to read and waste my time with ramblings of a complete nutcase

There's something quite unsatisfactory about this tournament though - probably the fact that it's fairly likely to be won by somebody who would've been in the PL anyway, making the whole thing a waste of time.

On Twitter you say Hearn's plans are controversial, I hope this does not mean the end of long frame formats.

Dear Mr Snookerbacker Hi Dave
How are you both! Thanks mister S for the “Fine Art” plug.
A coaching copyright is almost impossible to Police so the method is free to all students but not for commercial use or to enhance a reputation.

A ball can only “Roll” (at most) the length of its own circumference. It skids and spins. Don’t forget kind Sir to give the Dave Den blog a mention, and often. Mr hey you.

who care what he writes on twitter?

i want to read comments in here about this blog post.

is that such a difficult concept for folk to follow

dave posts a blog
comments about the blog are open
50% of comments in each blog posting arent about the blog

Jamie @ 2.32pm - Thanks - I mean,it's very 'reassuring' to know that Twitter users are getting the 'inside line' - instead of dedicated Snooker Scene bloggers?!

If Hearn's plans are 'controversial' to Twitter fans (of all people)

I can only imagine that the Worlds Final will become a 'game' of paper, scissors, stone & the UK Final reduced to the toss of a coin!!

As mentioned, the Worlds & UK MUST remain 'proper' snooker tournaments - If they were changed drastically - the sports recovery would be over before it had even started!?!

It's the other events where the word 'controversial' must most apply!

On the subject of Premier League & Championship League participants - It's quite flawed when current World Champ & the current world number 4 (John Higgins) has to go through the B-list invitational CL to get to the A-list PL event.
Which he should have been in already.

The Premier League format should basically be 8 players - the Top 6 ranked players getting automatic entry & then,2 wildcard invites.

John Higgins having to go through the CL process is staggering to say the least.

It also denies another up & coming player the oppurtunity to make progress for themselves in a more suitable event for their standard.

He doesn't have to go through it. he goes through it because he wants to. I'm sure he'll be in the Premier League in any case but this is good match practice for good money.

Cooking © The Fine Dining Method
Hi Dave Lad, how are you? Are there plans to change the venue to one where spectators can watch? And more importantly, Joe Davis used to tell me over a cup of tea that you should hold your cue like a chocolate eclair, just tight enough that the cream starts to squirt out over the edges. And dear old Joe insisted on using at least 80% cocoa solids for the chocolate. That is one fine dining secret that must be shared and not wasted. Mr Hum Drum Humpty Dumpty

Belated birthday wishes, Janie!

To the whinger who said that this tournament is pointless because the winner is likely to be invited into the Premier League anyway, I say, erm, didn't Judd Trump win it last year?

As for this year's Winners Group, with the exception of John Higgins, NONE of those taking part could take a place in this year's Premier League for granted, so there's everything to play for.

I, for one, am enjoying it. OK, so I'd prefer it if there were more televised tournaments at this time of year, but this is the next best thing, and is certainly an improvement on the conditions the qualifiers are often held in.

Finally, just a word about Michael McMullan; I don't know how experienced a commentator he is, but I've enjoyed what I've heard from him so far. I guess it must make a nice change from arguing with Mark Lawrenson, which is how I gather he normally makes his living.

Dear Janie Watkins
How are you lass! Congratulations on your Malta Birthday, and to a fellow “Snooker buff” Janie! “May the balls run kindly” for you and all lady players.

A wee word of advice lass! Concentrate on “Women’s Snooker” and the importance of Poise and Elegance in every single movement.
The cosmetic and lingerie industry are begging for a Television Sport played with Finesse. Mr hey you

Dear Mr 11:33 PM. Hi Dave the brave.
Thanks Mister for the plug! You don’t realise Sir how near you are to a “Fine Art” punch line. Maybe mister not in “Cooking” but in all “Fine Art Snooker Accessories”.

Your cream cake remark Sir could easily be true of Joe’s analogy on cue grips. As the great man once said to me “Over a pint of shandy” Hit the cue ball as if it was made of granite or stuck to the table.

Joe’s great regret was only (quote) “Scraping the surface of snooker coaching”. The great man was probable searching for the “Mechanics of the balls” and the awareness of “Physics in Snooker”.
The generous tobacco money stopped Joe’s coaching method being continued or questioned for over sixty years. Mr hey you
