WALKER 'DEFEATED' AT AGM

Unconfirmed reports from Sheffield suggest Sir Rodney Walker has been defeated in his bid to remain WPBSA chairman by 32 votes to 24.

More follows as I get it...

EDIT: World Snooker has confirmed Walker, Jim McMahon and Mike Dunn have all been voted off the board of the WPBSA.

UPDATE: It seems the actual figure was 35-24 against all three board members but the WPBSA is refusing to disclose them.

Why? This is indicative of the needless secrecy that needs to end. Now.

Wonderful news for snooker!

If true that is............

Wow, very close then...! 54 votes cast from a possible 72, not a bad turn out I suppose but closer than I thought.

BTW As B Hearn has said he'd be interested in the position, I imagine there would be others also interested ie other current Board members, so how does the next stage work Dave, do you know how long these things take, when can we expect a new Chairman?

Davis Days ahead so! (ie. interesting)!

I always thought that in part the players former "apathy" was related to the fact they saw no "replacement" for what they had, so why bring it down. Now that someone with a sucessful record as a sport promoter has come forward they have.

Great news.

Great news for the game, I have just spoken with Barry and he is delighted at the result even with all the extra work this will mean for him.

Official Statement form Barry Hearn to be published on TSF later today.

there were 24 suporters of walker that said a lot about the situation if walker after years of non activity got that much votes.

In response to Kev I too am pleased that the members have taken the decision to remove the current board. However I feel that Barry is been a tad presumptious about the extra work it will mean for him. Has their been an election for chairmanship that Barry has won.

There may will be other interested parties that may come forward.

Well I suppose the members of the board did vote to support him. And I know some people close to WPBSA or the academy have been active on forums and social networks to raise fears about BH ... so I'm not surprised.
Also I suppose that part of the 110 stable must have either abstained or vote pro... after all Ian Doyle is on the board aswell.

Next step is to expunge the game of all the people who have been spreading lies to the players and abusing positions of trust.

Del Hill should be top of the list for his disgraceful lies to players who trusted him as a coach.

And to all those other people who were also feathering their nests on the back of wpbsa at the players expense.

They backed the wrong side, now get out of our sport, let's clean it up now and for always.

I assume Barry has never been on the board before?

Ian Doyle not on the board. It's Lee his son.

Many questions have been raised about the 25 extra events. Where are they going to be staged? Where's the money going to come from to stage them?

I don't think that this is an easy task that Barry Hearn has announced.

For the good of the game, whoever is selected to carry the game forward, everyone needs to get behind them.

Sorry yes, Lee. my mistake. Whenever I hear "Doyle" I always associate with "Ian"...

A secret is wasted if not shared
Dear Dave
This news is not new news.
My Hearn has appeared on the board of the WPBSA before and still the rumblings continued in certain publications.
Others have appeared on the board including both Doyle's and one Everton.
There is no harmony amongst the squabblers and bickerers and there never will be.
Mr Hearn needs to bring joy to all concerned via the srt of music and dance, in the shape of samba music and the wildcards given to Igor Figueiredo of Brazil.
I believe the future lies in anything Brazilian and Hearn will spot this gaping sector of acceptance.
Why not use Pele as a figurehead?
Mr hey you

who on earth voted for rodney?

3.50pm

110 Sport would probably have done so with their block vote.
Also a few who were recruited by the very tall Del Hill.
This is how it works and nobody should be judged or be made accountable for it.
Many previous boards have been voted out with the new incumbents proving to be worse and no voting members have ever taken the blame for that before.

Very interesting angle. Dave - you're a journalist, what's going on there?
