SNOOKERED OUT

There can be such a thing as too much snooker, as Ali Carter will testify.

A week on from losing in the 888.com World Championship final, he was back in action at Crondon Park Golf Club here in sunny Essex in the latest group of the Championship League.

Ali had played in all six previous groups but finished bottom of group 7. He was clearly exhausted and had nothing left to give.

Therefore, he won’t be playing any further part in the competition, which seems a shame given his great run through it.

Indeed, it was the Championship League that got Carter match fit for the Crucible.

He won £22,600 from the event and, of course, £203,500 at the World Championship.

It means his earnings this season represent around a third of what he’s won in his 12 year pro career.

Now seventh in the world rankings, the only way is up for the Captain.

David;

I think the Championship League has been great for snooker this season, giving players like Ali Carter and Joe Perry vital match practice ahead of the World Championship and they certainly cashed in with interest at Sheffield, after a quiet period following the Welsh Open.

I think following Ali's run to four finals in the Championship League and his performances at Sheffield he should be awarded the final invitation to the Premier League.

I think Stephen Maguire would be an excellent candidate for the last invite following his victories in Belfast and Beijing but, he turned down the opportunity to partate in the Championship League so I feel the invite should go to a player (like Ali Carter) who has supported the event.

Good comment Ryan. It should go to Ali or Mark Selby or Shaun Murphy although I expect Mark or Shaun to qualify through the league

Will one frame to go in the Doherty/Selby match I am hearing from commentary that Doherty is out. According to the rules this is not the case. If Doherty wins 3-1 he will be level on points and frames won with Perry. The next decisive criteria is matches won- Perry has won one and Doherty will win two if successful in the final frame - thus Doherty goes through. The result of the match between them is only relevant if matches won were equal.

I have copied below the qualification regulations as shown on the website
In the event of two or more players having equal points, they will be separated by, in order, frames won, matches won, frame difference and head-to-head record

They've got it wrong on the website. Matchroom's own rules state that it's who beat who first so Perry was right to be put through.
