Those who complain that there is no tradition left in snooker these days will doubtless be buoyed by the news that the game's no.1 hellraiser is again mired in controversy.
Alex Higgins is reported to have punched a referee during an exhibition in the North East of England last night.
The twice world champion, who has just released his autobiography, hasn't played on the pro circuit for ten years but remains a huge figure. His career was dogged by various bouts of bad behaviour of which this appears to be the latest.
Still, can't see this incident harming book sales somehow.

It's somewhat reassuring to learn that Higgins hasn't changed:)
He remains my favourite player of all time but, unfortunately, also remains a complete idiot.
However you have to take the good with the bad!
I know he needs the money so I hope the book sells well.

Dave,
Isn't this book being re-released? If so, why?
Also, the police say the referee didn't press charges. Why on earth not?
I can see BBC putting the documentary - which was rather good - of Alex' career, on again. I seem to remember Clive featuring in it.
Finally, good to see Telford back on the map for the forthcoming season. It is a really good venue.
Thanks, joe
Joe - it's a new book, Alex's autobiography
Dave,
Cheers. Is it worth buying?
You do wonder whether these exhibition matches will continue for much longer with Alex. It is wonder Jimmy White hasn't thought about pulling out. Also, with the staging of such events does Alex really make a great deal of money from it? I doubt it!
Thanks, Joe
It's worth reading if you're interested in Higgins's take on the various dramas that marked his career
Dave,
Is there anything in it that most folk don't already know?
I'll probably give it a miss.
Thanks, Joe
Thwack went the blow to the referee's midrift.
Long time coming not.
