There's only ever been one ranking tournament final featuring two players from outside the UK.
That was the 1985 British Open between Silvino Francisco (South Africa) and Kirk Stevens (Canada).
So a Ding victory tonight will be significant...

you have hite the nail on the head David. The only occasions I am not a nutral, however is when I play. All other times I just find myself incredably fortunate to be able to watch a game I love, regardless of any result or standard at any time.
I beleive it was Meo's birthday at some point during this event. From 1 anarac to another, David, I beleive i am correct in saying that there has been 10 occasions on which a left- hander has got to a Crucible final. AM I correct? For the record, Iam thinkng the following.

As a biased Taff I'd love to see Mark get to the final, but on balance I think it would be brilliant for the sport if we had a Ding v Neil final. Either way I'm sure the final will be a cracker.
Every snooker tournament, I always think of, THE MAIN MAN, THE GOVENOR,I am of course refering to David vine. I think of him , as indeed I do of Paul Hunter,every day of a tournament.He will, I am sure, be watching tomorrow. Thankyou David Vine for all youve done for the game. R.I.P. David. As for the final, it has all the prospects and hallmarks, of been a cracker. I can't wait.
Am in great anticipation of Ding v. Robertson. And following on from Liang in the Shanghai final it's a terrific start to the season for the overseas contingent. Given the weirdness attached to the 1985 British Open final, it's rather odd to hear it mentioned in this happy context. I suspect the gap will be shorter to the next all-overseas final.
Ding v Robertson is also interesting in that they each have 3 wins out of 3 in ranking finals. On the other hand, it's the first time Robertson has met a seeded player in a final.
I soppose it is to much to hope for to have a 9-8 rollercoaster on the final black. Yesterday, we had a, as I described, "mezmorizing" first semi-final. Higgins .V. Robertson 6-5 on the final black. so regardless of the result or standard, Ilove all kinds of snooker. in these circumstances, for me, it will be a craker what ever happens. I can not wait untit the 2 O'Clock start, an the final installment at 8 O'Clock final session, this evening. Bring it on boys...
