SIX ON FIRE

The first six reds World Championship, to be staged in Ireland in December, has attracted interest from many well known names.

The organisers say they have received entries or a commitment to play from players including Stephen Maguire, Shaun Murphy, Ryan Day, Mark Selby, Mark Allen, Joe Perry, Mark Williams, Mark King, Jamie Cope, Ricky Walden, Matthew Stevens and Judd Trump and are hopeful that a number of other big names will also sign up.

The tournament runs from December 15-18 at the INEC, Killarney.

Is this yet another tournament without a sponsor?

Hazel said that you had written a piece in a newspaper on the possiblity of staging a Ryder Cup style team event, I was wondering what paper that was so I could have a read?

No it's not without a sponsor. They have several sponsor partners already signed up.

Sponsorship? what about TV?

Jamie - it wasn't in a newspaper, it was on this hallowed blog

Partners means no big money or benefit in kind.

So no title sponsor then? And what about TV?

Oh, I thought she said paper, so that means Hazel reads this blog then. I think the team event in principle is a great idea, but I would prefer a World Cup as the European banner means nothing too me as I feel English and British but not European. I have always been not as passionate about the Ryder Cup because of this. Having said that Europe v Asia would be watchable. I think the players would get more of a buzz out of representing their country though. It could be a simple 16 team event it might even intrest the BBC, although possibly at the expense of the Grand Prix.

I called for a World Cup as well.

The 'Ryder Cup' idea was China v Europe, although it would probably end up being a 'rest of the world' team as Robertson and others would miss out otherwise.

A world cup was ran by the IBSF a few years ago in the USA where each country could have 1 pro.
England won it.
