DOYLE: 'CARTER FEARED RETRIBUTION'

Lee Doyle, the leader of the discredited coup to oust the WPBSA board at the forthcoming EGM, has claimed Ali Carter withdrew his support because he 'feared retribution' from snooker's governing body.

Doyle told 110sport: "Ali stated to me his fear of retribution if he was to be linked to the proposal.

“It is clear there is still unrest in the game and until proper money is invested and the players are earning what they should be earning unfortunately this will not disappear.”

Yes, there is unrest because those who lost to Barry Hearn last June have been stirring it up rather than keeping their promises made at the time to support the new regime.

Hearn has raised prize money on the circuit since the time Doyle was on the WPBSA board so even if he believes the players aren't earning enough now, they are certainly earning more than there were a year ago when he was a director.

Barry Pinches, for example, has already earned more money so far this season than he did the whole of last.

Carter himself earned £5,000 more for winning this season's Shanghai Masters than he would have done under the previous board last year.

There are concerns from players and they should be listened to. It is also naive to believe everything will run smoothly from now on - I understand a statement is due shortly regarding a tournament that will not be good news.

But the best chance of snooker reaching its potential is if players and managers accept that Hearn and his team have to be given a fair chance to make the changes necessary to get the sport back on its feet.

Calling pointless EGMs will not help this.

Unrest from one person, Lee Doyle. Lee accept you've lost and move on with your stars of yesteryear. Hearn controls the game and is doing a grand job. 110sport move from one debacle to another, their attempts at running events seem pointless and as for having any strategy they seem lost. Ian Doyle must be wondering how his son has got it so wrong!

All this is overshadowing the real issue of the day surrounding the wording of the Mark Williams question in the Thursday Quiz. I took it as qualifying means played there as if he plays there he has qualified...

Are you simply burying bad news Dave? Shameful stuff.

My lawyer will be issuing a statement shortly

Man this Doyle guy is making me vomit figuratively. A truly sad individual. The only one causing unrest in the game is Doyle himself.

The modern day players are to blame as well, as it seems they really can't go to the toilet without their agents. 'Arry Redknapp was so right about this.

We must remember that Carter himself seemed to have no opinion whatsoever on the matter when asked. And I bet the others would have been the same, apart from Ebdon possibly (quite surprising that he withdrew as well, knowing that he's just so ebdon).

"Fear of retribution" my arse. Just fe*k off, Doyle. I'd say you've betrayed the trust of your own players by trying to brainwash them all the time. Fans of snooker have had enough of this on-going shite, and hopefully some of these players have now noticed that we do follow these battles. The history has taught us to do so.

I propose an EGM to remove Question 2 and replace it with a better worded question.

I'll attend your EGM snookerbacker on the condition that bourbon creams are served.

Anything less would be considered a derisory offer.

Spot on porridge. Lee Doyle is going the right way about becoming the most despised man in snooker. what a neck he has. I personally will boycott everything 110 from now on.

Anonymous said...

kildare cueman said...

Off topic I know, but does anyone know what the story is with the premier league tonight?
According to Sky tv guide it starts at 7.30 then goes on to golf at 8.30.

Sad reaction. What I think about Mr. Lee Doyle right now cannot be expressed in polite words. I hope I'll never have to hear about him except in connection with good deals got by him for the players he still manages and happy events in his family.

I meant "good sponsorship deals got by him for the players he still manages"

Yes Dave. Sorry, you missed the EGM.

A lot of feared retribution these days...

..Russian mafia... and now...

How desperate is Lee Doyle? This has to be the final act of someone who just can’t quite believe that snooker doesn’t want him (possibly because he has done nowt of any worth) or need him.
Even the players he manages have turned a 180 on him when it appears that Lee Doyle is looking for others to fight his fights for him.
When he could have gone toe-to-toe with Barry Hearn, he chose to walk away. Now he’s been running around getting players to ask for an EGM which suddenly they realise isn’t such a clever idea after all.
Perhaps Doyle should concentrate on actually doing some of the things he said he would do a year ago, like show live snooker, or live darts, or live boxing, other than showing old Embassy videos.
If Alli Carter is so frightened, then he should speak to Barry Hearn. I would do that before I would listen to anything Lee Doyle might think.

Nowt to do with the World Championship and the news isn't that bad...all will be revealed later

All, anyone interested Ali has posted his own thoughts on the matter on my blog.

Anonymous said...

What jolly japes...let's guess what the bad news could be!

1. Streakers have been banned

2. Cadburys creme eggs won't be on sale

3. Commentary ear pieces have been outlawed. Commentators voices will be heard by the players over the PA system.

4. The high break prize has been cut to £3k

5. Mike Dunn got the Wild Card for the Masters.

Snookerbacker, if I may post a pertinent paragraph from your blog from Carter:

'I was asked to commit my support whilst in the middle of competing at the World Open. Perhaps I was a bit naïve in not paying the matter due care and consideration at the time. I had not really had the opportunity to think about it and I had not fully appreciated the implications of expressing my support at the time. I have a good working and professional relationship with Lee Doyle and I have been attached to the 110sport stable for some years now but on reflection, I decided to withdraw my support. This was more concerned with the fact that I did not really wish to become embroiled in the politics of what is going on in the sport. I am a snooker player and that’s what I want to do – play snooker.'

Bit different to 'fearing retribution.'

Is it just the Wembley wildcard being removed?

Redandblackblog said...

Still doesn't paint Carter in the best of light, he's not the brightest by the sounds of it.

Hmm..the point on player naïvety rings true.

I am not connected in snooker in any way..but I can well imagine how wide-boy characters such as Mooney persuaded young snooker stars to let them manage them.

lots of bad press seeping out around 110 and their clients. you would almost think they don't have a spin doctor these days

Anonymous said...

More potential bad news:

1. If a 147 is made the sponsor will hand over the keys of a shiny new City Rover

2. Further to the successful introduction of 'stage flies' at the World Open, bumble bees shall now be introduced to liven up matches with grinders

3. The tv highlights programme will be presented by Ronnie O'Sullivan

4. JV will reprise his "warm up act" showing how old pros used to pot the black, before the final is shown

5. Only "Fine Art(c)" qualified coaches will be allowed to commentate based upon their copyrighted "tell it and we'll tell it again" methodology

"lots of bad press seeping out around 110 and their clients. you would almost think they don't have a spin doctor these days"

coming from a former 110sport spin doctor

I also believe the bad news is no any wildcard for the Masters.

Anonymous said...

I here eptc4 has had to move to Gloucester from Germany - is that the bad news? if so this is just a shame rather than anything else

Anonymous said...

Dave,

It is hardly bad news especially if it going to be screened.

Anonymous said...

Can anyone answer Kildare cueman's question as i was just about to ask the exact same question?

Dave H said...

Alright, well I suppose it's bad news for folks in Germany who were planning to go.

The Premier Leagus is live all night on Sky but you have to press your red button after an hour to continue watching.

that news has been on websites since last night dave

Dave H said...

It may well have been but I said there was a statement coming - which there is

Your truly, paranoid, Stirling

Anonymous said...

wasnt having a go. was expecting a "big problem"

folk in germany make up a small % of the total viewing, so its not that big a deal to me, though i wouldnt like it to become the norm

So, has Parker failed in the task set by BH in that he had to find European Mainland venues?

Redandblackblog said...

The Sky thing is bad news if your a subscriber to Virgin, as I am, so the red button option doesn't work. That's quite annoying, what's on the other channels that's more important? The Gloucester news is fantastic as it will now be streamed live and people in the UK can finally now watch a PTC event live in person.

Just looked at the schedules on Sky -
SS1 Darts - fair enough
SS3 Golf - fair enough
SS2 Some rugby match - sort of fair enough
SS4 Horse of the Year Show - what the hell?!

I presume they position these on audience figures so does that mean the snooker gets lower viewing figures than all of the above?

Just looked at the schedules on 110 sports TV

nothing
nothing
nothing
nothing

I presume they position these on audience figures so does that mean nothing is making them money?

Anonymous said...

Just caught up with this and the Sky issue, if I'm not mistaken Bet 365 were Live Streaming the match on their website last night. But I suppose that's very little use now! Not a fan of the PL, sorry.

Anonymous said...

Can anyone back up the 'fear of retribution' claim? Is there any direct source to confirm Carter actually said that?

This whole EGM thing has turned out to be like a feel-good movie where all the baddies come to their senses in the end and run off (to plan new schemes for sequels).
