more gimmicks

10 minutes?? Make it 15-20. An hour long safety battle will of course not do with this format but won't most frames be stopped prematurely? A quick table clearance can be done in 7 minutes or so but can't a player in the lead just stall and drag out the time?
Please tell me more about the format. This seems very strange.

Hi Dave!

According to this article,

http://www.worldsnooker.com/news(Sky_To_Televise_World_Snooker_ShootOut)-2171.htm

frames will last for 12 minutes, rather than 10 minutes!

Dave H said...

It was originally 12 but is now 10

What if the points are level?

Is it who ever got 1st score?

Its possible to have no score also if safety battle puts balls awkward.

10 minutes sounds illogical. As a previous poster stated, most frames will end prematurely and there will be a temptation to put balls safe if you are ahead after 5 minutes to prevent your opponent winning. This could result in the opposite of what the organisers are trying to achieve. On top of that there will be less opportunity for big breaks which I imagine the promoters wish to see.

Sounds crazy. I'm all for trying new things but one frame of ten minutes? A gimmick too far.

a total waste of time
if i was one of the players id not bother turning up to this pile of pooh.

I'm glad you're not one of the players then. That's just the sort of negative attitude that would see snooker die. Any tournament is better than no tournament and this one is televised as well so stop complaining. If you were running snooker things would be very boring!

dont talk rubbish
this is no more a proper game of snooker as the players playing pool
get your head out the sand 948
id rather see no snooker than this bastardised version of it on our screens

i hope they are limiting it to 10 or 6 reds then to increase chance of games being played out. I could understand a 20mins time limit but this is crazy and I am surprised Jason Ferguson has gone along with it. it would of been better to limit it to 32 players and allow 20mins a frame if tv dictates to that extent- please dont call this snooker - it isnt. from a supporter of virtually all of Barry Hearns other ideas but this one has not been thought through in it's application. Do the organizers take for granted tat all the top 64 players WANT to play in this event? Have they asked them before the draw was made?

Otherwise, we may see a few dropouts. The prize money isn't THAT good. And no ranking points at stake.

Ronnie and Marco Fu looks good. Williams and Higgins definitely the stand-out quite rightly. If the scores are tied then surely there would be an re-spotted black?

Apparently it's a respotted blue!

And it's £32,000 the winner. They'll all play.

no fixture looks good

its a frame that cant last 10.5 minutes and thats a match to relish?

anyone getting excited about that needs a tin of paint and a brush

i cant see mickey mouse in the draw?

Just wait and see how it turns out. If it is a failure, I can't believe Hearn staging it again next year.

Looks like a bigger joke than Power Snooker. The only angle I can see for Hearn is using it as a gateway tournament to Sky staging a proper WSA event.

if anyone watched the premier league final last night it explained the rules for this event.10 mins per frame. 20 secs per shot for the first 5mins,15 secs per shot for the last 5mins of the frame.a ball has to be potted or hit the cushion from every shot.ball in hand anywhere on tablet after a foul.blue ball shootout if scores are tied.thats about it.

Anonymous said...

trevor, did they say how big the tablet is?

Trevor said...

normal table i presume no mention of that lads.
