DAVIS GETS HIS POINTS

Steve Davis has received 1,900 last 16 losers points from the Bahrain Championship and Ronnie O'Sullivan 700 points for losing in the opening round.

Both players withdrew from the tournament with medical certificates.

Davis had been due to play O'Sullivan in the last 32.

It makes little difference to O'Sullivan either way because he's so far ahead at the top but Davis now rises five places to 22nd.

My opinion is that World Snooker has done the right thing. Davis withdrew when he had already been put through to the last 16.

Also, although there is natural scepticism regarding the Premier League situation, you can't disprove a doctor's note.

Davis received winner's points for a match he hasn't even showed up for? Ridiculous.

As most people know from experience, it's not that difficult to get a Doctor's note out of your GP. I'm a bit suprised at Steve Davis over this.

Davis was obviously making a point and he played it perfectly.

i am not overly bothered at Davis as he "may have" done it because of the WS dates shambles, but the other players issue is shocking IMO.

Davis did not put himself in that situation. World snooker did.

I hope they learn from this.

So are they giving points to the likes of Higgins and Selby too, Dave?

It seems unfair if Selby et al don't also get the points -- almost like encouraging people to obtain insincere doctors' notes rather than being honest about their reasons and timing for withdrawal.

Remember Ronnie - who wasnt playing PL that week - just didnt want to go and made up the illness.....(i am joking about that btw, he obviously was ill and is now on the mend). Why are the two being "linked"?

I can't beleive Steve Davis gets 1900p - he didn't even go to Bahrain! He should get 1400 p for winning his qual match. It's also very convenient to have an ear infection - SO THAT YOU CAN'T FLY! But playing Premier League is no problem.

This means that Selby and Higgins should have done the same - pretend they will participate in Bahrein and then drop out due to illness - that would have given them 700 points for losing in the first round!

It's a shame that Higgins et al don't at least get their 700 points, just for being honest...

Had Davis not been drawn against Ronnie in the first round, he probably would've withdrawn before the tournament even started.

Unlike Selby, Higgins and Ding, he entered the tournament as playing in the qualifiers meant he was guaranteed SOME ranking points.

As it turned out, circumstances played into his hands but I don't think you can blame him for anything. As many have said, the blame for the shambles lies solely with World Snooker.

How can O'Sllivan get any points at all for not showing for a match ? People all talking about Davis missing the main point. Davis' situation a bit more open to opinion.
