The Global Snooker Awards and Golf Day will be held on October 13 at Celtic Manor, Newport.
The awards are intended to honour those who have made a contribution to the sport as players, promoters, officials and broadcasters.
The golf day, which is hosted by Mark Williams, and awards night will raise money for the Tenovus cancer charity and the Paul Hunter Foundation.
Snooker previously enjoyed awards lunches and nights (and sometimes both) under the auspices of the WPBSA and, more recently, the Snooker Writers Association.
The Global Awards will hopefully get a good turn out from snooker's leading names. Fans can also attend by purchasing tickets.
To vote in the awards or take part in the golf day, go to global-snooker.com.

You're a nominee Dave. no rigging the vote now!!
Vote for Dave, Vote for Dave...
I can understand some of the awards but 'Broadcast of the Year'!!!
"Perform Group - Championship League
It's amazing what you can do with the magic of television. The innovation of online TV has brought a new dimension to the world of broadcast. Internet users were treated to virtually non-stop coverage throughout the 16-days of Championship League competition."
So, fix a web cam at one end of the table, and you'll be up for an award.
Words fail.
The Championship League is broadcast using four cameras.
I think the nominations for commentator of the year award would be:
Clive Everton
Dave Hendon
Dennis Taylor.
The organisers have really drawn out the categories, have they not?
I mean, "referee of the year" and "best dressed player".
Maybe Rob Walker can announce...."Ladies & Gentlemen. Please welcome, 3 times World Champion and last years Best Dressed Player, Ronnie 'The Dapper Rocket' O'Sullivan!"
It ain't exactly Royal Ascot!
Maybe the players should do a little catwalk stroll as they come on and perhaps the BBC could get one of their fashion correspondents to give us the run-down.
"And tonight, Sean is wearing a delightful 3 piece suit, hand-made for him while on a recent trip to Hong Kong. Look at the intricacies of the stitching on the lapel and the clever use of thread in the crotch. He also sports a brilliant white shirt that he got as a BOGOF in ASDA (£6.99 for 2. Now that's a bargain!) and a traditional bow-tie, this one dating from the early '20's that has been a family heirloom. Beautiful black shoes, hand-polished by some homeless guy at the station, really finishes off the outfit perfectly".
Bit surprised with some of the awards especially as there isn't a young player of the year award for example.
Dennis Taylor is surely the favourite for commentator of the year. If it wasn't for him I'm sure I would forget that Mark Selby has a lovely sense of humour, which is where his nickname of the Jester from Leicester comes from. Thanks Dennis, if it wasn't for you I would have forgotten that over the summer.
What about a 'Table of the Year' category. I'm sure the players would all have an opinion on that one.
I've put a grand on The Masters winning the category for the 'Best Invitational Event feature all of the top 16' ...
Maybe they could have had a "Best Dressed Referee" award, or a "Sponsor of the Year". Perhaps decide that one on the toss of a coin.
"Miss of the Year" must surely go to Jamie Burnett. "Longest Drive" goes to Neil Robertson who has to journey from Australia.
Hey the Celtic Manor is just up the road from me!
The only vote I'll make public was my choice of Clive Everton for commentator of the year. Not only do I think he deserves it, but he should pick up the award as the fans' way of showing that they don't like the way he's been treated by the BBC.
Let's hope the event is a positive experience for snooker, with plenty of money being raised for two very worthy causes.
Incidentally, I'm sorry things have been a bit quiet on the website recently- we've both been very busy with other work, but if you've got any ideas for features for the quieter summer months, do let me know!
"and the best website goes to global-snooker.com"
FIX !
all those trying to be funny....
remember it is for charity
anon at 1:58pm - is that meant as a joke? Everton and our Dave are in a different league to that waffling buffoon!
what a joke of a nominations...
and this for charity? give me a break. I'd say it was for charity too if I ran the website.
A great idea and why not have some more fun categories? Snooker does tend to take itself a bit seriously at times. I will be there!
"And the TSNsnooker.com Memorial Award for failed genius goes to ...."
"Dean Reynolds"
Anon @ 5:12pm
LOL - 'Sponsor of the Year'. By the way things are going it will be 'heads, Betfred - tails, Betfred.'
Hi Dave,
This new awards show doesn't replace the Snooker Writers Awards does it? If not, why isn't the 2 combined?
I can understand why Global are doing it, and good on them, but there really isn't enough snooker to actually give much of this any credeance!
Also, why have the WSA never had their own official snooker awards show and, if not, why don't they endorse one of these shows to give it an 'official' status?
Do you have the address for where journalists apply for becoming a member of the SWA, please?
Thanks, Joe
I should do all the funny categories!
Joe, the SWA dinner and awards seem to be a bit up in the air at the moment.
The WPBSA did used to have an awards do. Very enjoyable it was too. They had the likes of Bob Monkhouse and Jim Davidson doing turns and most top players went.
The problem, like many things, was cost. Maybe Global Snooker could ask for their endorsement but then they may want to start having a say in the nominees etc and I actually think an independent awards bash has more credence.
Thanks for the information, Dave.
I think the WSA should lead by example. And, by getting involved with Global it might bring all the parties together in the future of the game - every little helps, eh?
If the WSA got involved, at least a ballot for votes (if players could be bothered to vote!) would ensure no rigging of winners.
BTW, can you comment on whether this bash or the newly formed Players Association will be making any contributions to Chris Small.
I know you said the SWA did and the WSA didn't. Is there any further news on it?
Thanks, Joe
The best option would be to let the players vote, a bit like the way the Oscars are decided.
The SWA donated money to Chris's benefit but he was unsuccessful in getting money from the WPBSA benevolent fund, although quite a few players rallied round.
Murphy for best dressed player (Nap)
