WORLD UNDER 21 CHAMPIONSHIP IN DOUBT

The World Under 21 Championship, due to be held in Kish Island, Iran in August, must surely be under threat following the recent unrest in the country.

The UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office are advising British people not to travel to Iran.

The withdrawal of English, Scottish, Welsh, Northern Irish and Republic of Ireland teams would decimate the field.

Various EU countries are threatening to recall their embassy staff, which would surely rule out a whole heap of other players.

The International Billiards and Snooker Federation, whose website is updated only sporadically, should make a statement about the event.

Remember, it did not take place last year and a decision now needs to be made whether to move it, albeit at very short notice.

See, it isn’t just world snooker that are inept!

The rest of the world have bee wary about Iran and that part of the world in general and they decide to take the U-21 championship there.

Do you need a degree in stupidity to be a legislator in snooker?

Iran was perfectly safe until a couple a weeks ago.

How many times have international events been jeopardised by the selection of the host nation in recent years?

There must be a reason why these nations are selected when they are clearly not suitable.

I wonder what it could be?

Seems a strange place to have it anyway

it's not only the location and current troubles that are a problem.
the travel and costs are causing countries huge problems.
some countries made their decision not to go before the current problems cropped up.
if you want a really good laugh, ibsf were considering myanmar for the world billiards. i've heard tha Tokyo also want that event.

Tokyo?

Didn't I read Japan gets 5000 earth tremors a year? Sounds a god place for snooker or billiards.

"Touching ball ... now it isn't ..."

Myanmar?

When it comes to cue sports, don't they have their own house rules?

No, sorry, I was getting mixed up with house arrest rules ...

I wasn't even aware that there was a World U21 Championship, let alone knew of the venue.

The ludicrous decisions made seems to know no bounds.

FFS - Iran. Sounds like someone fancied a jolly in the sun rather than promote the sport.

Which genius decided to bring snooker to Iran? Wouldn't it be better to at least wait until they left the middle ages well behind? Snooker will not bring respect and freedom for women. If you unveil a tournament they must first unveil the women.

But most women hate snooker...

They should hold it in Grimsby instead.

Where did you get the idea that most women hate snooker?

we hear another good story. Syria have given interest in hosting 2010 ibsf world championship.

now where else do we welcome a country to stage an event? Afghanistan would be a great place!
