ALEX HIGGINS DIES: THAT BREAK

Among the many things that will be said about Alex Higgins, many good and many bad, he was responsible for one of snooker's most memorable moments, which is worth reflecting on tonight.

Trailing Jimmy White 15-14 in their 1982 World Championship semi-final, he was a frame - in fact a couple of balls - from defeat.

A truly legendary break under the most severe pressure. My favourite shot is the red he takes into the top right pocket after the outrageous three-quarter ball blue. The red is great because he plays it with control as a shot to nothing. Had he missed it, all he could have left was the red itself. It took some nerve to clear the table there. But he had nerve and heart in abundance.

RIP Alex..you will be sorely missed by the world of snooker.
