Interesting to see that players have more chance's to play and nick a few quid World Snooker has introduced 7 additional small tournaments!!!
Mmmmm no doubt it will get attacked by the usual suspects !!!

Considering I had the same idea six months ago - http://snookerscene.blogspot.com/2009/01/time-to-change-ranking-system.html - it won't be by me, if that's who you are referring to

Dave you seem to be the man in the know, there is a rumour going around that the players who took part in the world series of snooker ran by pat Mooney were paid late or were not paid the amounts they were contracted for? Cheers

... a rumour that's only been going around since someone started in on Radio Five Live last week.

Although, what is it they say about people in glass houses?

None of the players have said anything publicly about this, which you would think they would if it were true.

As a general rule I don't report idle gossip.

If hard evidence emerges then that's a different thing.

Are you trying for election to the Board?

Me?

No

People would have believed you more if your response had been 'me?!!!'

That reply has got people thinking now ...

You dont respond to gossip, you're having a laugh. It's selective gossip that keeps you going.

Why don't you some players or managers and report back, is that not what people like you should do?

good idea why not ask around

I see that Barry Hearns premier league has dropped the prize money by 20k for the winner and 10k for THE r/up,it seams that the world snooker series and prem league are having troubles.it seems to be world snooker that gets all the stick.

There does not seem to be a balanced view.

David,

I found that to be a very good podcast. Very interesting to remember some great parts of the season and bring all the events together.

P.S - I don't blame you for putting comment moderation on.

dave,

you mentioned in the podcast (brilliant stuff again) that motorcycling is the biggest sport showed on eurosport, but i'm curious how snooker is doing viewer-wise. i remember the finnish commentator once saying that snooker is the 3rd biggest sport on the channel. sounds ab fab indeed, but is it actually true? (and what does it actually mean to be 3rd biggest anyway?)

so can you give any lowdown of the stats or whatever?

thank you in advance.

Dave H said...

Thanks. I was only talking about British Eurosport with regards the motorcycling.

Not sure exactly what the figures are for snooker but I do know that snooker and tennis are regarded as the two 'bedrock' sports (this isn't a reference to The Flintstones) in that they fill up several hours with a guaranteed good audience.

For one week at the World Championship snooker occupied eight of the top ten places in the ratings for the channel.

Was there really 40-45 people in the crowd of the Bahrain Final? That is truly shocking. I never noticed that, when I watched the final, live.

the Dubai duty free event was on the calendar for years and that was very poorly attended also, but the players liked going there, so did the press, and if the Bahrain tournament is on again with funding in place they will be happy to go back, crowds or not.
