TORNADO TONY BLOWS AGAIN

Of all the snooker players I have watched, few have been more entertaining than Tony Drago.

A bundle of nervous energy, Tony has mixed flair, emotion and the fastest cueing arm on the planet to great effect during the last 24 years.

He turned 44 today and celebrated with a 5-3 victory over Andy Hicks to reach the third qualifying round of the Grand Prix.

Drago is still lightning fast. Remember, he once won a frame in just three minutes and the passing of the years haven't brought about any appreciable taming of the 'Tornado.'

This is because he plays on instinct. When it works it is awesome to watch; when it doesn't it can be painful.

Tony has always worn his heart on his sleeve and this only adds to the entertainment value. When he wins, he is delighted. When he loses, move out of the way.

They call him the Star of Malta and, every now and again, he can still shine brightly.

Today was such a day.

Hi Dave,

Thanks for answering the other queries.

Drago certainly puts his fans through the mill doesn't he.

Where is he practicing these days? It was at Jimmy White's club wasn't it.

Drago's not a fan of flying either. As I once found out. Worth it for a few brilliant anecdotes that he gave me!

Thanks, Joe

Dear Tony
Congratulations on making all the fours. I don’t think you realise just how good a player you were and possible still are. Your only fault was you played as quick as you could move as opposed to as quick as you could think.

Sadly Tony you managed to move on the shot successfully even though you had a great stance and balance that never got a chance to show its correctness,

The game is crying out for entertainers to put “bums on seats” Tony. Try playing at the same rate and timing as the referee and make a big deal of flavouring each and every shot as if you are giving the viewers a special treat in timing.

Your main fault Tony when the crowd wants a winner you sometime (a fault) alter your cue action to be careful. Mr hey you

I love Tony and would be so thrilled if he could make it big in a ranking event.

After Ronnie, probably the next most entertaining player. Should have acheived a lot more. Would have done if he had a safety game. Has he joined the hundred centuries club yet? Last I heard he was on 97.
