ON MESSAGE

World Snooker's disastrous tie-up with the Press Association (see posts passim) - which has seen press coverage during tournaments dwindle to its lowest level since the 1970s - has hit a new low.

This screenshot is taken from the sportinglife website, the copy for which is supplied by the PA (thanks to a regular reader for sending it on).

You will notice that despite running the story that Betfred are sponsoring the World Championship, it still refers to 888.com as the sponsor in several stories.

I'm sure Fred Done will be delighted.

Here's something positive from World Snooker. Snooker's equivalent of 20/20 Cricket.

I'm not convinced by this 20/20 thing. While, admittedly, it will maybe lead to quicker frames. Why not add a few extra pockets with double points being awarded for the new pockets.

We could get breaks of 200+

"The working party who looked into this thought that a six-ball tournament with matches that take an average of six to seven minutes to play, with maybe the best of five, best of 10 frames (could work)."

How on earth do you have a match that is best of ten frames?!

maybe they've stolen the Premier League format ...

After one year of Rodney Walker having the concept of the World Series of Snooker in his possession he has at last admitted that he has no original thoughts or ideas and has decided to copy en masse the whole concept of the World Series. Interestingly, he is also taking full recognition of the objectives published by the Snooker Players Association with regards to the revamping of the ranking system.

This is just sadistically crap.

The six/seven reds thing is truly awful. What a waste of time. No-one and I mean no-one wants to see Willie Thorne pick up a cue again.

This has disaster written all over it. Leave the game alone.

Sounds a good idea to me... I wouldn't mind seeing some of the old players back in action - what about Alex Higgins v Kirk Stevens for the first match?

as another reader has suggested...the premier league darts format is

best of 14 frames / first to 8

its often refered to as best of 14

it still means that when a player gets to 8, if at all, the match is over, but if it goes 7-7 then the match is tied.

works well

it may not be exact terminology without the / first to 6 added on, but that is the saying generally used in tournament suchlike

dont mention it ;)
