A COMMENT ABOUT COMMENTS

I very much appreciate the comments left on here and the debates they spark.

I have recently had a problem with a (very small) number of contributors and turned on comment moderation. This was because of spamming and in some cases libellous posts.

However, it is obvious this ruins the flow of responding and so I am turning it back off.

To be blunt about this: there are many, many corners of the internet in which it is possible to argue and insult one another, I hope this doesn't become one of them. I will have to delete comments that are deliberately offensive or generally out of order.

Please play nicely!

Thank you VERY much for not allowing things to degenerate on this comments-forum.
It’s better to nip this in the bud now rather than let a small minority grow & alienate those valuable commenters whose only (minor) fault might be occasionally wandering off topic. Very much appreciated.
Thanks - Earl

Why allow anonymous posts. If people want to take part they should register. Why is that a problem?

what difference would it make if there was a name next to every post?

you make a comment on the blog, or on comments made

it shouldnt need to have a wee name beside it to make up your mind to post

Actually some of the spam comments I have seen were not "anonymous". It isn't difficult to make up a name...

But a pity really that it has to come to this.

well put Monique

someone could register and then post that f*** a** crap under a name.....would still be there but with a name. personally i put a comment on whether its to the blog or to a name or to an anonymous.

its not exactly a website forum here where everyone registers and can make threads etc....so why try to make it like one? its a blog, we comment on blogs or other comments gone by, with or without a name. its no more complicated than that.

oh and its a very good blog

On a different note ; surprise surprise - I am unable to get onto World Snooker's website this morning. There is obviously a huge amount of interest in the China Open and their website has crashed. I am relying on you Dave for info and results.

global snooker / eurosport should have very regular updates

World Snookers website ALWAYS crashed whenever there's a ranking tournament on.

The commentator this morning kept making extraordinary noises down the microphone.
Maybe the different atmosphere in Beijing had affected his throat.

any chance you could get the same spammer/liar off the eurosport boards as well - they've been totally ruined.

For the life of me, I do not know.
